Where should we go ski?

Located in Sandpoint, Idaho, Schweitzer offers a wide range of terrain, from gentle slopes for beginners to challenging expert runs. The resort’s stunning views of Lake Pend Oreille and the Selkirk Mountains make it a truly unique destination. Schweitzer also boasts a vibrant après-ski scene, with plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy. Recently acquired by Alterra Mountain company, the Schweitzer Village offers diverse Real Estate opportunities, however understanding the area and accessibility of available properties is important to new comers. For those looking to explore beyond the resort boundaries, Schweitzer offers 6 backcountry gates to access untracked terrain. Schweitzer averages around 233 inches of snow a year, 2900 Skiable acres, and offers Cat-Ski/Snowmobile Tours from the summit.

Offering Cat-Skiing, and Avalanche Safety Classes. Selkirk Powder has been a staple in North Idaho for about 20 years. Most recently moving from the summit of Schweitzer Mountain, Selkirk Powder has opened up 6,250 acres of skiing right next door. These guys offer educational opportunities to help you push further into the mountains, and also develop the skills necessary for backcountry travel.

Arguably the best kept secret in the Northwest. Turner mountain is a dream ski destination. The ultimate “Dive Bar Ski Hill.” Featuring one chairlift, and a small lodge fueled by local volunteers, roughly 400 acres of skiable terrain, pushing 2200 ft of vertical drop, all serviced by one fixed grip chairlift. Turner runs with the motto: “No line but the fall line.” Located about 2 hours from Sandpoint, near the town of Libby, Montana – Turner operates every weekend and is available during the week to rent the entire mountain out to yourself.

Another hidden (less frequented) Gem of the Northwest, is 49 Degrees North. This Ski Area is unique for a few reasons, but the biggest reason is that they always have the early season turns. With dedicated summer grooming, they only require a few inches of snow to open up right away. (Local Lore says they only need 4 inches of snow to turn the chairlifts) Located near the town of Chewelah, Washington it’s about an hours drive from Sandpoint. While the Ski Area itself is about 50 miles south of the actual 49th parallel, the mountain boasts roughly 2325 acres of skiing.
